January 7th: AGM.
February 4th: Helen Phillips:
The Master Craftsmen of Kashmir
Helen has spent time with some of the Master craftsmen and women, whose families have for 7 generations been involved in the hand spinning, weaving and embroidery of the very finest Pure Pashminas and has collected examples of their work including a Jamawar Pashmina shawl which has taken over 3 years to hand embroider and is really quite exquisite in its fine detail. She founded the company Door to the Himalayas Ltd about 7 years ago to promote the beautiful hand crafted textiles she had found during her visits to Himalayas in Northern India. Helen will bring examples to sell.
March 3rd : Professor Bob Wilcox:
Medicine in Victorian Times.
Bob is Emeritus Professor of Cardiology at QMC, also a volunteer at the Southwell Workhouse.This illustrated talk reveals the methods used to “cure” patients and the evolution of treatments.

April 7th: Joy Jordan:
A has-been?
During the period 1958 – 1962 Joy was “the untouchable force of middle distance running in Britain”. She reached the final of the 800m in the Rome Olympics then, a few weeks later, set the only world record ever at Welwyn Garden City in the 880 yards. She also just happens to be a member of Shelford WI

Diana was involved with WI Enterprises, responsible for all the WI products you can buy from the WI or from shops; she was also very much involved with the AGM and shared a lift with HM the Queen.

Anne, the youngest of the Brontë sisters, is not as well known as Charlotte and Emily. Why? Why are her books not read as widely as Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights? Come and find out more about her.

November 3rd: Dr. Martin Hewitt:
The history of the Nottingham Children’s Hospital
Martin recently retired as Consultant in Paediatric Medicine and Paediatric Oncology at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. As a consultant paediatrician in Nottingham he was responsible for children admitted with the full range of medical problems from Nottingham and the wider area and as a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist received children with malignant disease from the whole of the East Midlands.

Complementary Therapy and Massage.
March 25th: Federation Spring Council Meeting: the main speaker will be Ruth Goodman of the BBC’s “Victorian Farm” and, more recently, “Secrets of the Castle”
April 2nd: Gabrielle Middleton:
Belly Dancing. This will be an interactive session i.e. you’ll be belly dancing!
May 7th: a Tai Chi workshop.
May 14th: Resolution Meeting.

Bess of Hardwick. She started life as the daughter of a Derbyshire farmer; married four times (each time acquiring more wealth); had eight children; and became the richest woman in England.
Also, at some point during the day. The Centenary AGM of the WI will be screened from London’s Albert Hall.
June 26th to 28th: WI Centenary Weekend. We’re hoping to link with East Bridgford WI for joint celebrations.
There will also be a Flower & Craft Festival on the theme of ‘Inspiring Women’ at Newstead Abbey this weekend. This is the Federation’s main event and we are invited to submit an arrangement.
July 2nd: Ruffy:
Flower arranging. Those of you who came to Ruffy’s workshop this year will know how talented, humorous and patient she is.
July 24th/25th: Federation Denman Weekend
September 3rd: Voice Versa:
An entertaining evening of poetry and prose.
October 1st: Michael Brown:
In a Monastery Garden. Flowers and herbs explained by (possibly) a costumed character. See his website www.historicgardener.co.uk.
November 5th: David Brailsford:
Storytelling. An evening of humorous talks; some true, some porky pies, some fantasy, most funny.
December 3rd: Christmas Party with entertainment by the Knights of Harmony.
Other events, workshops etc. will be announced nearer the time.

A light-hearted quiz on the theme of “food”. Prizes for the winning team!
March 6th: Nigel Lowey. St. Pancras Station and Hotel: a fascinating talk, beautifully illustrated,
by someone passionate about his subject.
April 3rd: Paul Stevens: Musket, fife and drum
Paul is a member of the Sealed Knot, a group that stages re-enactments of Civil War battles.
He brings the Civil War to life by demonstrating (and wearing) the uniform and weaponry of a
Royalist soldier, ably assisted by his wife Marjorie.
April 15th: Group Meeting. Speaker: Des Coleman. Tickets £3.00
April 24th. Knitting workshop. Come along and make bunting for the Baton Passing.
Can’t knit? Make a pom-pom!
May 8th: Resolution meeting, followed by a singsong
May 15th: Flower Arranging Workshop.
June 5th: Climbing Kilimanjaro: Carole Kirk on her walk up this iconic mountain

The storytellers are a group of volunteers who research
and write stories which they perform in costume.

August 7th: Heather will lead a walk around her potato fields. Meet at 6pm - park in the Earl of Chesterfield car park and walk to Heathers, Beech Farm. We aim to arrive back at the Earl for a meal at 7 pm – so if you don’t fancy the walk,
just join us for supper. Please let Heather know either way so she can book the pub.
WALK IN BOOTS OR STRONG SHOES – IT’S SOIL!
September 4th: Patsy Rayner – The role of the natural world and garden in Japanese life.
Patsy has family in Japan and is a frequent visitor and fluent Japanese speaker,
as well as a gardening expert. Her illustrated talks have proved immensely popular in the past.
We hope to follow up Patsy’s talk on another date in September with a visit to the
Pure Land Meditation Centre and Japanese Garden in North Clifton for a candlelit evening
(Fridays to Sundays 7 – 10 pm, admission £5.00)
September 12th: Fashion Show. Tickets £5 to include a glass of wine 7.30 pm in Shelford Village Hall.
Information for those who haven’t been before: there are unbelievable bargains to be had;
for instance last year I bought a superb lined Austin Reed dress, labelled at £190, for £30.
There were also lots of M & S tops, leggings, trousers etc. as well as pieces of jewellery.

The Chocolate Box sells divine handmade chocolates from its shop in Radcliffe.

She will have a selection of chocolates for sale - ideal Christmas presents!
